Boosts, channel levels and Premium members: how they relate

A boost is a vote that a user with a Telegram Premium subscription can give to a channel. Collected boosts raise the channel's level, and the level unlocks features: channel stories, extra appearance colours, custom reactions and emoji, more visual options. Telegram changes the exact boosts-per-level numbers and the feature set over time; the current values are shown inside the app in the channel's boosts section.

Who can boost

Only Telegram Premium users; each has several boost slots that can be spread across channels and moved. A regular account cannot boost. So a channel without a Premium audience does not level up, no matter how many members it has.

Where Premium members come in

The “Premium members” service adds participants with a Premium subscription to the channel for a chosen period. Each of them could in theory boost the channel, but whether they do depends on the member and on whether their slots are free. That is why we sell Premium members, not “boosts”, and do not promise how many boosts a channel will get.

When Premium members make sense

  • You need to show a Premium audience in the channel for a while, for example before an advertiser deal.
  • The channel needs a chance at boosts and has few organic Premium users.
  • The period is known up front: members leave when the paid period ends, and refill does not apply.
